Specializing in the manufacture of surgical instruments, Friedrich Daniels joined the Acrotec Group’s Medtech division in 2023. This will enable the Swiss group to round out its offering to implant manufacturers, as well as strengthening its presence in Germany and the USA.
Founded over 75 years ago, Friedrich Daniels GmbH is a fourth-generation family business based in Solingen, Germany. With decades of experience, it has established itself as a globally recognized leader in the development and manufacture of customized surgical instruments on a subcontract basis. FDA-approved for prototypes and production, the company is also ISO 13485:2016 certified.
At the forefront of its areas of expertise is spinal surgery. It manufactures a wide range of systems for its customers, covering the anterior, posterior and lateral routes, including distraction and compression devices.
But Friedrich Daniels also provides innovative innovative solutions for foot and ankle surgery and ankle surgery, as well as state-of-the-art trauma instruments for the treatment of fractures and injuries.
The company masters a wide range of coating operations applicable to its instruments: chrome, DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), TIN or even AlTiN. Finally, it is able to take charge of the production of silicone handles and meet its customers’ expectations in terms of design, color, or the affixing of logos.
Drills and cutting tools for assisted surgical navigation
Friedrich Daniels also specializes in the production of advanced surgical navigation systems, including in particular drills or cutting tools of extreme precision. Among its latest achievements is a 420 mm-long drill for which the German manufacturer has achieved a concentricity tolerance of 0.04 mm over the entire length. “This niche market offers great potential, particularly in the USA,” says Max Daniels, the company’s COO. He adds: “There are still very few players in this market today, given the technical difficulties involved.”
A bright future with Acrotec Medtech
Since Friedrich Daniels became part of the Acrotec Medtech Group, the company, which until now had mainly US-based customers, has already received several inquiries from new customers in France and Switzerland. It is also now working closely with another Group subsidiary, US-based Axial Medical, which specializes in implant manufacture, notably on a project for a surgical instrument for traumatology. We can also benefit from certain technical skills present within Acrotec Medtech, such as Microweld’s expertise in laser welding, which we have already called on,” emphasizes Max Daniels. These synergies should further accentuate the growth of this expert in surgical instruments, which recently obtained a building permit.
